Matrix 071

Matrix 071 Oil on Canvas. 8" X 10". Finding the figure in abstraction.
Matrixing, leveraging the mind using the theories of Gestalt psychology. I find my best abstractions to be a matrix for the viewer to unveil their own forms. This painting is one example. As are the other pieces from my "Finding the figure in abstraction" series. The Gestalt effect refers to the form-forming capability of our senses, particularly with respect to the visual recognition of figures and whole forms instead of just a collection of simple shapes; lines, curves or other smaller visual elements that comprise the whole composition.

A few other descriptions:

Matrixing is a term used to describe the human mind's natural tendency to find familiar forms in complex shapes or colors.

Matrixing is a process by which we humans continually organize, order, align, or standardize, the un-organized, un-ordered, mis-aligned, or non-standardized, allowing us to manage the chaos around us into something that is more beneficial to us.

A matrix is a system that abounds in creativity.

In the Light

In the Light Oil on Canvas. 8" X 10".

Finding the figure in abstraction.

Another in my series of automatic gesture paintings. I call them this because the images are evoked through conscious thought transferred during the process of freely applying the medium in this case oil paint.

As I paint with a conscious idea in mind I let my subconscious mind guide me as I pull out the subject through my mark making. This process allows me to keep a fresh unexpected beauty, and create the most wonderful intricate details of form.

Woman of the Red Earth

Woman of the Red Earth Oil on Canvas. 8" X 10".

Another in my series of automatic gesture paintings. I call them this because the images are evoked through the process of applying the paint freely and then in retrospect letting my subconscious mind guide me in pulling out the subject from the initial mark making session.

I have found this process to be truer to my nature than any other I have experimented with. And because of that I create more genuine and unique imagery. Imagery that is painterly and compositions that are fluid binding the aspects of figure and ground into a cohesive whole.

In the end the process and overall painting are more important to me than the subject. Although I am amazed and inspired at the profound images I often find. The concept; that even in my intentional attempt to create random subconscious marks my conscious mind still insists on finding patterns, shapes and form.

I find this to be a very human condition. And one worthy of exploring. I hope you find your own inspiration in it.

facing ones master

Facing ones master 8.5" X 10" Oil on Canvas. As we look into what drives us through self reflection and an honest dialog with ourself. We find our desires, dreams and ambitions shall manifest themselves into the world.

This piece done in my own style and is another glimpse into what I find so compelling and divine. It is about my fascination with beauty. The beauty imagined and found through the process of creating art that is free flowing and is rooted in the here and now. It is about mark making and had ties to ancient concepts of beauty and form.

It is a form that evokes the spirit of personal creativity and self expression. And the most intriguing aspect to me is that it allows you to use your minds eye and creativity. See what you want to see and make it your own. Some say they see things in my work. Things that aren't always noted by every observer. So, I hope you find inspiration in it. Have to run Heroes is on.

New art posting again soon

Sorry, that it has been so long since my last post. Time flies by so fast and days have turned into weeks... The good news is I have a lot of new pieces to share. It's just that I have been busy with work and other household projects and just haven't found the time, focus or energy to post. Along with completed pieces I have quite a few new ones in progress. So, I hope to start posting again in the next couple of days.

Spirit Guide

Spirit Guide I saw an Eagle overhead again yesterday which, is always a welcome sight to me. In this image you find me catching a Spirit image in a moment with a media that is much more ephemeral and immediate than traditional oil paint. I hope you find it intriguing.

Over a year now

I have been posting a piece of art everyday for over a year now. So, I will be posting art less often although I am continuing to produce art. And plan to continue to do something toward my art and self development each day.

You can rest assured even when I don't post a new piece, I will continue to post my thoughts and ideas. Stay tuned as I am sure there will always be more for me to share with you.

Currently I am working on organizing work for a show next week. So I am busy taking inventory and documenting the pieces I plan to exhibit.

Lies we tell, lies we believe

Reflection of the Human Condition - Lies we tell, lies we believe. 4" X 5". Oil on Canvas. Two faced, talking out both sides of your face, white man speaks with fork tongue. I am sure you have heard these and probably many more. They are verbal descriptions of what we feel is one the worse kinds of human behavior - living and representing with no honor. We find ourselves in a world were someone's word means nothing. Or, worse yet their word is an out right lie used to manipulate others for their own personal benefit.
