Pico Risco

Pico Risco   24" X 18". Oil on Canvas.

Another goal of mine is to use my skills to create beautiful paintings. Paintings that maintain my personal style and artistic finger print. Paintings that I hope will speak to all and inspire us to be better stewards of this planet. Making our focus not so much on money, but more about natural beauty. Doing what is right and best for the planet first above all else. So that we might preserve this garden rather than continue to ravage it.

Until we can put the greater good of our planet above our own personal needs, wants and desires, humankind will remain a plague on the earth. And be remembered as the destroyers of worlds rather than good stewards and caretakers.

Documenting, remembering and illuminating places that deserve our respect, honor and protection. We must be made aware of these beautiful places to insure we maintain them and the glory and majesty of this planet as long as it exists.

How do you want to be remembered?

Pico Risco is a beautiful classic desert peak in northern Baja, Mexico. I am considering doing a limited edition print of this piece. If I do I will also donate a percent of proceeds to organizations like the Sierra Club that work to promote and protect nature.

Glass Block 12 L'Estaque

Glass Block 12 L'Estaque Digital Art.

Not unlike many of my predecessors, from Braque to Warhol, I will use whatever images necessary to create my digital expressions.

In this series I have chosen to utilize historical, pop or other recognizable images whether they be found or created. I do this to better connect with my audience. Using these icons as visual clues and references. Allowing me to further investigate and experiment with how our minds work. And how they reinforce our sense of reality and history, along with our need to belong. As it relates to social order and individual purpose.

Here I find great delight in being able to create socially and relevant statements. All using photographic images using original art & photographs to create cultural statements... sometimes pop. Using these icons as base subject matter to express artistically the current state of my our world.

Once upon a time, a very long time ago... I did a painting, a study of Cezanne's L'Estaque. This image was created by using a photographic image of my oil study and a composited image of glass block. Creating a while new piece inspired by earlier piece and time, some thirty years ago.

Glass Block 12AG2

Glass Block 12AG2 Digital Art from composited photographic images.

Again I must apologize for the lack of another image today. I still can't connect to my image server. I will add any images that are absent as soon as I can. Thank you for your patience.

Glass Block. I wil try more with this visual metaphor again as I did before many years ago. I shall use it (the glassblock wall) as a metaphor for the veil. The veil that blinds us. The veil that decieves us. The veil that conceals the truth. I will paint it all for you. I will paint for you beauty. And I will paint for you the horror. I will paint for you all I see though my walls of glass. And we shall see if anyone shall take note enough to see. To see what lies beyond...

As always please feel free to add your commments, thoughts or ideas.

The Return of Shiva

The Return of Shiva Digital Art.

Shiva is a form of Ishvara or God in the later Vedic scriptures of Hinduism. The meaning of the word 'Shiva' is 'Good' hence he is called the Good Lord. Shiva is the supreme God in Shaivism, one of the major branches of Hinduism practiced in India.

Shiva as Rudra is considered to be the destroyer of evil and sorrow. The formless, timeless and spaceless Supreme God in Shaivism. Adi Sankara interprets the name Shiva meaning "One who purifies everyone by the utterance of His name" or "the Pure One". The name Shiva is the Holiest of Holy names.

see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva

BUT IN 2007 WE MUST ALSO CONSIDER THAT:

A typical human, any individual from any number of groups separated by nationality, or religious affiliation*... might well think of Shiva as a pagan idol to be scorned, shunned or otherwise denigrated.

My goal is to illustrate this and other difficult images and topics through the use of glass block as a metaphor and visual mechanism to distort the source image.

It is this abstracted, changed or distorted view that is at the crux of my point. Our reality is based on what we believe. And I know what we believe, and believe to be true is not always so. We can be wrong, miss the point completely because our belief is so strong that it blinds us to the real truth.
